Hi there! My name is Madison and I am so grateful to serve this community, thank you for being here. I wanted to share a little bit about myself and my passion behind this business.
I've always loved cooking. Growing up I remember testing out different recipes and trying to lead a healthy lifestyle while focusing on my love for food and flavor.
About three years ago I started educating myself about the harmful effects animal products, such as meat and dairy, have on human health. I found an incredible book called "How Not To Die" by Dr. Michael Greger, which is a testament to using a whole food, plant-based diet in preventing and reversing life-threatening diseases.
The initial thought of changing my diet felt overwhelming, especially because it required a lot of "unlearning" what I was taught from a young age, but with every chapter I read of this book my reluctance subsided and the motivation to change my diet grew. I was educated on diseases that correlated with meat and dairy intake such as Parkinson's disease, heart disease, cancer, diabetes... the list goes on and on. I quickly realized a big part of my wellbeing was in my own hands based on the food I consumed.
I decided then that I wanted to become the healthiest version of myself to lead the best quality of life. This meant fueling myself accordingly, while finding a way to make plant-based food satisfying and tasty!
And so the cooking began... I was on a mission to become an expert on plant-based cuisine. This meant a lot of experimenting, reading cookbooks, watching YouTube videos and cooking programs - basically anything I could get my hands to learn from chefs all over the world. My mind became a melting pot of different techniques and recipes, taking little pieces here and there to combine diverse ideas into my own dishes. I was introduced to assorted seasonings, herbs, and all types of new foods.
Today, my cooking focuses on texture, flavor, and consistency while also taking into consideration nutritional needs for a healthy functioning body. I can totally relate to how intimidating lifestyle changes are, so our goal at Healing Hearts is to make your exploration or transition into this world of plant-based eating easy and delicious!
My heart feels happiest when I am able to share my dishes with others. After feeding my non-vegan parents for the first time I remember them saying, "We could eat this way if you just cooked for us all the time!" I'm overjoyed to report they've since followed a plant-based diet for more than a year and counting. Watching the people I love transform their health and knowing they too will have a better quality of life is where my drive for this lifestyle originates.
To further my credibility, I recently completed a planted-based nutrition certification program through Cornell. I am so grateful to have been able to further my knowledge to better serve those around me and am dedicated to continue learning, growing and healing hearts through my business.
